New Skin

You’ve got to grow into it, your new skin.

Let it fit around you and the things you

Have been. You can’t force it or stretch it

Too thin, you must envision a smaller self

Every now and again. For, things might

Get too tight and what happens then…

You’ll end up in a fight with the way you

Have been. So play your cards right and

Always remember when things weren’t so

Tight in your old new skin.

Hubris

Lights glimmered to the north

And from my lap I looked forth

To review the quirky spectacle

But it did not reveal itself in full

So I continued with my book

‘Till the lights requested a second look

From just beneath the willow tree

Two red eyes were beaming me

Were it the devil in a prance?

NO! Those blood red eyes began to dance!

Were it the raven mocking me?

NO! It was my reflection unfortunately!

Drawing

The sun is sublime

And the branches all rhyme

I’m aware of the time

But not by human design

I’m filthy but fine

Drawing this vine

The wind it wines

And the summer it finds

Me ok with nature’s signs

For, I’m at peace

And well within reach

Of the rays

That fill my days

And tan my skin

Just below the chin

Where the charcoal darkens

And an eraser harkens

Light to and fro

With a happy glow

It’s the knowledge I know

From heart to hand to elbow

Art Is About Freedom

Art is about freedom.

Tiny little kingdoms

Made of foreign rules

With red and yellow

Houses with garages

Full of tools. Tools

To build and deconstruct

Thoughts and actions of

The world, inner worlds.

Some skies are made of swirls,

Some pictures have girls, others

Are made of boys who make lots

Of noise, pleasant noise. It takes

Poise, and direction, discipline,

And know how. Otherwise, how to

Draw a cow? Or a goat. Or a little

Person’s moat. Yes, a giant mote

To protect the freedom kingdom

From outsiders, from posers and liars.

Those who threaten your inner fire.

Let them get hired. Then let them get

Fired again and again, those life losers.
